Abstract:

The GOES-R satellite series represents a leap forward in capabilities for the entire portfolio of GOES science products. The GOES-R Product Readiness and Operations (PRO) team is tasked to work with our partners at the National Weather Service (NWS) and within NESDIS to ensure that the satellite products are ready for operations and the user community is ready to receive and disseminate the various products to serve their needs and requirements. GOES-17 ABI, GLM, and Space Wx science products have provided early results throughout the past few months. The Post-Launch Test (PLT) phase is nearing completion. Readiness for operational delivery of the portfolio to the user community via numerous direct readout and terrestrial paths has been strategically planned, rehearsed, and executed to ensure customers will have timely access to all products. On-orbit Post Launch Product Tests (PLPTs) have been executed to ensure systems, algorithms, procedures, tools, operators, notifications, and the user community are prepared to exploit the benefits of GOES-17. This presentation will highlight the recent launch of GOES-S (now in orbit as GOES-17), the current status of both GOES-16 and GOES-17, and outline the GOES-17 transition and drift plan to GOES-West. In addition, we will outline all GOES-17 product distribution paths including direct readout services, review the validation maturity for the GOES-17 portfolio including in-progress algorithm and configuration updates, and finally describe the readiness of GOES-17 data operations to serve in the GOES constellation.
